Setting up your space and laying out your paper, pens, pencils & markers is preparation for drawing, but it is not drawing.
Getting up from your drawing to have a drink or go to the bathroom is not drawing.
Checking your phone while drawing is not drawing.
Adjusting your junk while you are drawing is not drawing.
Putting pen/pencil/marker to paper – that is drawing.
Capturing on paper the image of your reference or from your mind’s eye – that is drawing.
Getting lost in your work and forgetting time – that is drawing.

My first art class went well. She had me do many things differently than I am used to, and all for the good. I am drawing a still life composed of a skull and a couple of silk flowers. I am drawing in pencil now, and will add colored pencil later.
